One of India’s most prestigious jobs is the IAS. Getting a job in the Indian
Administrative service not only entitles you to fortune but also garners respect
from the society. You are the decision maker for institutions that you are posted
in and most of all, you will be an interface between the government and the
general public. So before you jump on the bandwagon, here are a few things to
consider before you prepare for UPSC 2019.

Aim
UPSC exam is not an afterthought. Aspirants must think of their contribution to
the nation when they apply for this exam. Academics is just a small part of the big
picture, your mindset should project how you would take this great responsibility
and convert it into something beneficial for the people. After all, successful
aspirants become the key decision makers in the future of our country. Even
during the last phase of the exam, i.e the personal interview, the candidates are
thoroughly assessed about their aim it’s alignment with the government’s
agenda.

Preparation Strategy
Every aspirant knows that it is one of the toughest exams in India to crack. And
hence, you need to devote as much time as you possibly can towards preparation.
Typically, a good tenure for effective preparation would last almost an year. But
even then, only a small fraction successfully gets through. Besides this, you need
to decide if you want to join a coaching centre or study on your own.

Time Frame
If you are a student, preparing for UPSC is a whole new affair. You need to
acquaint yourself with the vast civil services syllabus and dedicate long hours of
study (10-15 hours) just to even stand a chance. Not to mention, you would need
to constantly update yourself with current affairs and trends around the world.
And this isn’t for a month or two, aspirants are advised to follow this routine for around 10 to 11 months. Therefore, you need to set aside time and dedicate
yourself for this cause.
